Significant Innovation Achievements in Wuhan Botanical Garden

On January 9th, Mrs. Chen Pingping, Party Secretary and vice president of the Wuhan Branch of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Wang Xiuqin from the department of human resources, visited Wuhan Botanical Garden for work evaluation on the leadership.
Gong Junjie- deputy Party secretary, Prof Zhang Quanfa- deputy director, and Mr. Wang Zhanjun- deputy director, successively presented their work reports to leaders from Wuhan Branch of the CAS and the WBG staff.
According to the meeting, innovation work of Wuhan Botanical Garden has been undergoing a great leap-forward in 2008.
The year 2008 is of special significance for Wuhan Botanical Garden. It is the first year since the new group of leaders took office, as well as an important period of time when great efforts has been devoted to studying and practicing of the Scientific Outlook on Development.
Despite a series of adverse factors such as the snow storm in early 2008, and Wenchuan Earthquake in May, Wuhan Botanical Garden has made remarkable achievements in various aspects.
With care and support from the leaders of the CAS and its Wuhan Branch, leaders of Wuhan Botanical Garden, together with all the working staff, have marched forward with keen determination and dauntless spirit, made significant improvement in the capacity of scientific research, innovation, openness, development, and sustainable progress.
Breakthrough in construction of research platform
CAS Key Laboratory of "Aquatic Plants and Watershed Ecology", Hubei Key Laboratory of "Wetland Evolution and Ecological Restoration" were officially established, for the first time, in Wuhan Botanical Garden, which is a great breakthrough in platform construction.
Continuous promotion in economic strength
Owing to the joint efforts of the leaders and staff, Wuhan Botanical Garden strives to broaden sources of funding and reduce expenditure, which leads to the improvement of financial situation.
In 2008, it is expected that funding of the WBG aggregates over 80 million, which is a 33% of increase on the basis of 2007, while at the same time, a sharp reduction of managerial expenses is achieved, and basic annual balance of funding and expenditure is notched up.
Brilliant achievement in talents introduction
It has always been the top priority of Wuhan Botanical Garden to recruit innovative talents and leading scientists as well as to build up a team for scientific and technological innovation.
Significant advance in reforming management of human resources
Wuhan Botanical Garden further improved the management and service of human resources.
In this year, “Competition for Posts" has been completed over the whole staff of the Garden, and the structural wage system, job subsidies, and performance awards are revised, which greatly mobilized the motivation of the staff.
