On April 24^th, the fifth labor union and the second staff representatives’ conference of WBG, Chinese Academy of Science officially held. The institute leaders and staff representatives attended the meeting, and the leaders of various departments and committee members of retired personnel also attended the meeting as observers.

At 10 o’clock in the morning, the conference opened with our national anthem. Then the representatives listened to the report: Work Report of 2008 and Work Orientation of 2009, presented by Dr. Li Shaohua, the standing deputy director; Financial Statement of 2008 and Financial Budget of 2009, presented by the deputy director Mr. Wang Zhanjun; Scientific Research based on Botanical Garden, presented by Dr. Zhang Quanfa, a deputy director. On the conference, Dr. Jiang Mingxi, the group leader of proposal work of Staff Representatives’ Conference as well as Mr. Liu Jieming, the chairman of WBG Labor Union and Staff Representatives’ Conference also delivered reports.

In the afternoon, all the people attending the conference discussed the reports in groups. They believed that significant progress had been made in 2008 through solidarity of WBG and concerted efforts in adversities while further efforts were still needed to narrow the gap between WBG and top botanical gardens in the world. Representatives also contributed a lot of suggestions and proposals in the fields of garden construction, scientific development, remuneration for the researchers, housing issues and performance evaluation mechanisms, etc. At the end of the meeting, Ms. Gong Junjie, vice secretary of CPC committee delivered an address.
