It's announced that WBG has been recently authorized to offer doctoral degrees in two first-level disciplines, Biology and Ecology.

WBG highly values the quality of graduate education in academic degree programs. It is one of the institutes under Chinese Academy of Sciences with a complete educational system of master's and doctoral programs in both Biology and Ecology.

There are three levels of academic programs in institutes for postgraduate education in China, namely  "disciplinary category”, "first-level discipline” and “sub-discipline”. For example, Botany is one of first-level disciplines involved in Biology as one of discipline categories, and then Forestry, Horticulture, and Plant Geneitcs are set up as subdisciplines under Botany.
