Dr. Ksenija Gasic Visits WBG

Dr. Ksenija Gasic from Clemson University visited Wuhan Botanical Garden (WBG) on May 21. Her visit was at the invitation of Dr. HAN Yuepeng.
Dr. Ksenija Gasic delivered a lecture entitled “Peach breeding program at Clemson University” during her visit. The peach breeding program at Clemson University mainly focused on development of high fruit quality varieties for fresh consumption with improved disease and abiotic stress resistance using traditional hybridization approaches combined with molecular assistant selection. The objectives of their research were to develop high quality, disease-resistant peach varieties adapted to environmental conditions of the Southeast in USA and to find new markers closely linked to disease resistance genes.
Dr. Ksenija Gasic is the leader of peach breeding program at Clemson University. She was offered a guest professor posotion of WBG. WBG and Clemson University has been working closely during the past years.
