Visit of Prof. ZHU Jiankang to WBG
2012-12-28
Prof. ZHU Jiankang, Academician of National Academy of Sciences, USA, visited Wuhan Botanical Garden and delivered a lecture entitled “Osmotic Stress Sensing and Signaling in Plants” on December 25th.
Prof. ZHU Jiankang firstly gave an overview of “Shanghai Center for Plant Stress Biology, CAS” in preparation from the personnel, hardware facilities and research environment. Then, he made an introduction about the recent research progress in Zhu lab on osmotic stress sensing and signaling in Plants. His lab focuses on uncovering the roles of abscisic acid (ABA) receptor to further discuss the functions of related receptor families in osmotic stress sensing and signaling transduction. Subsequently, Prof. ZHU had a thorough discussion with the participants.
The meeting room was packed with experts and scholars from Huazhong Agricultural University, Wuhan University and Wuhan Botanical Garden. Professor Zhu Jiankang‘s wonderful lecture won warm applause.
As a prestigious scientist, Prof. Zhu leads his lab to mainly focus on the molecular mechanisms underlying plant responses to harsh environmental stresses, such as salinity, drought and cold. In addition, he is interested in the role of epigenetic regulation in stress adaptation. His lab used a wide range of approaches, including genetics, biochemistry, genomics and proteomics, to gain a comprehensive understanding of the stress signaling and tolerance in plants.
