Symposium on RAD-Seq Technology Held in Wuhan Botanical Garden

2013-08-09

"RAD-Seq technology and its application" symposium was jointly held by Adaptive Evolution of Aquatic Plants Research Group from Wuhan Botanical Garden and North Carolina State University in Wuhan on August 3.

Dr. Ross Whetten and Dr. Qiuyun (Jenny) Xiang from North Carolina State University were invited at the symposium. These two professors both have done well in RAD-Seq research field. By introducing the basic principles, experimental procedures, data processing method and application examples, this symposium aims to help students fully understand RAD-Seq technology and apply it skillfully, and promote RAD-Seq technology application in plant population genetics with the help of lectures, laboratory operations and practice on the machine.

Restriction-site Associated DNA sequencing is the high throughput screening and SNP genotyping methods based on the next-generation sequencing technology. It can quickly identify the high-density SNP loci for genetic map construction, population genomics and evolutionary analysis without reference genome restriction, which has wide application prospect in model and non-model biological genetic analysis. Participants from more than 10 provinces gathered at the symposium, providing a good opportunity for academic exchange and cooperation.
