SAJOREC Scientists Visited JKUAT for Annual Academic Conference
2017-12-06
From 23th to 24th November, Prof. YANG Pingfang and Prof. GUO Mingquan from Sino-Africa Joint Research Center (SAJREC) visited Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT). The main purpose of this visit is to attend the 12th JKUAT Scientific, Technological and Industrialization Conference (STIC). They had been both invited to make presentation on their recent work in the conference.
Prof. YANG presented his latest research findings by giving a lecture themed “Proteomics analysis on rice seed germination”. He elucidated regulation of rice seed germination, the critical phase in the plant life cycle, and provided comprehensive insights into the molecular mechanisms of the process.
Prof. GUO also participated in the parallel session of the conference sub-themed Agriculture Sciences and Technologies for Sustainable Food and Nutrition Security. He presented and shared his chemical study on traditional medicines. The two researchers’ presentations, which are geared towards the overall capacity building of the country, were widely commended during the conference.
The STIC has been organizing and hosting annually at JKUAT since 2005. The aim of this conference is to bring researchers from different backgrounds and countries together, share about their research findings and discuss the way forward towards achieving certain goals for better livelihood. This year’s conference theme was Mainstreaming Research and Innovation for Sustainable Development.
More than 200 researchers from nearly 10 different countries involved in various kinds of research participated in the conference. Ways to deal with major issues such as sustainable food production and nutrition security, unavailability of water, climate change, etc. were discussed intensively. During the conference, newly development products as output highlighting technological innovations tailored towards industrialization at JKUAT and other institutions are exhibited.
