Jointly undertaken by Institute of Hydrobiology and Wuhan Botanical Garden, CAS, quarterly workshop on a cooperational project between CAS and Sinopec Group “Complete Technology Development of Microalgae Biodiesel” as well as symposium on basic research technology of Microalgae was held in Wuhan from May 19th to May 20th. Roughly 30 people from cooperational units like Science and Technology Department of Sinopec Group, Research Institute of Petroleum, Fushun Petrochemical Research Institute, Shijiangzhuang Refining&Chemical Factory, Institute of Process Engineering, CAS, South China Sea Institute of Oceanology, CAS, Institute of Hydrobiology, CAS and Wuhan Botanical Garden, CAS attended the conference.

During the conference, the guests visited the laboratory and algae species storage of Plant BiotechnologyGroup, WBG and participated in the training on basic research technology of microalgae organized by the Group. Qiong Liang, Head of Scientific Research Department of WBG and all the members of the Group warmly welcomed the guests.

Prof. Yeguang Li from Plant Biotechnology Group made a report entitled “Exploration on Open Cultivation Technology of Oil-Producing Microalgea”, introducing the progress the Group made in large-scale cultivation of oil-producing microalgae. After listening the report, Conference participants fully affirmed the progress and stage achievements of WBG in the project. In the symposium on basic research technology of microalgae, Senior Engineer Yahong Geng explained and demonstrated the technology for algae species separation and cultivation, while Dr. Fang Liang demonstrated the methodology to determine the total lipidcontent ofmicroalgae. Conference participants stated that the symposium promoted their understanding on basic research technology of Microalgea and is very helpful for their future research.

The Symposium made all the project units use unified and optimized methodology on key technology index, which is of great benefit for the project research progress.
